maybe a file information screenshot from virtualdubMOD might shed some light on your problem?

and which player did you use?

    try wmp6.4 for a change: start => run => mplayer2

I'm having the same problem. I get sound but no video, just a black screen when I use Window Media Player. But when I run it thru DivX player it works fine, picture and sound. Here is the info I got from VirtualDub:

      Frame size: 640 x 480, 23.976 fps
      Length: 131358 frames (1:31:18.72)
      Decompressor: XviD MPEG-4 Codec
      # of Key frames: 1925
      Min/avr/max/total key frame size: 3346/24630/74980 (46303K)
      Min/avr/max/total delta frame size: 8/4581/64273 (579080K)
Data rate: 935 kbps (0.49% overhead)

      Any solutions anybody.

        fallout,

Either the XviD codec or FFDShow will enable you to view this video.

Have you tried using FFDShow yet? Have you made sure that FFDShow is configured to handle XviD contents (by going to Configuration -> Codecs, and enabling XVID)?

I got it to work with ffd show, but now my problem is when I encode it into mpeg I get a black screen. If I burn this into a vcd do you think a will get a black screen when I play it on my dvd player?

For converting to MPEG format(s), you'll have to install an ACTUAL Xvid codec...

What software, procedures, and settings are you using to convert the file to MPEG1-VideoCD format?

I'm using tmpg to encode it. My setting and procedure are the same as when I encode other videos and they work, so I don't think that's the problem. I think my problem is it's not reconizing that I have the xvid mpeg-4 codec installed.

                          To fallout

Open VirtualDub (You don't have to load any video into it)

Under the "Video" tab, select "Compression" and scroll through the list of installed codecs

Does an Xvid (NOT DivX) codec appear in the list?
