"More efficient" you mean more speed or image quality? Because WMP9 has very good speed and image quality. The only complain about it is the fullscreen stuff...

WMP classic and 6.4 are way more lightweight, meaning less memory and CPU consumption. WMP7+ have lots more features running, and so it is very heavy on Memory and CPU consumption.

you may want to use WMP9 for mp3 and lightweight audio files, and use WMP classic and 6.4 for videos
