I can see just one frame

    Hello

    I've got a following problem:

Downloaded an avi and can't play it. VirtualDub shows no fake-indicating values.

The outcome of VD is that it shows one frame when I move the slider and press "play", but doesn't play the rest of the movie. As I understand from seen frames the movie is what I wanted.

I tried to recompress it but it didn't change anything. I scanned it for errors (with VD) and there's no bad or unreadable frames.

    Hope you will help

Its codec is divx. I've just checked wirh GSpot - no missing codecs, rendering succesfull. But I still can't watch the movie - I hear the sound, thu.

Btw. Avic shows divx as description codec but dx50 as used codec. Don't know if it is the same as divx or relevant to my problem

        that's divx5

        do you have divx5 installed?

i recommend FFDSHOWs latest alpha as playback filter - give it a try!

          I've got divx 5.0.2 Bundle

          Do I still need FFDSHOW?

Btw. What's the differnce between codecs and filters?

I recommend that you install the Divx 5.05 bundle

the divx 5.02 version will not display Divx 5.05 movies properly

            (video freezes audio plays on!!!)

Filters are mainly used for displaying purposes or to alter videoinformation while playing or encoding.

a CO DEC is used for CO(DING) and DEC(ODING).

              Use VDuba again.
File/Open/tick "popup extended open options" and then "Rederive keyframe flags"

Set video to direct stream copy and resave under a different filename.

If it plays ok in media player it's using something called "Directshow" in windows, ok. You don't necessarily need the codec installed to play the avi. (e.g ffdshow)

                      Now, in VirtualDub, it's different.
It uses "video for windows" or (VfW).
Here you definitely need the codec installed.

So with that in mind what codec is the avi encoded with and have you got it installed? If you do, you could have a corrupt avi. (downloaded?)

Gspot might shead some light on it for you about the codec.
