Video to Avi (not digital camera)

I was wondering if there was a way or some sort of hookup that you could use on a non-digital camera to convert it and save it to my computer for editing uses.

    Sure - with two caveats:

    1) Your camcorder must/should have both video and audio out connectors

    2) Your computer system must have video-in capability (and some type of capture software

      Additional Question

Do you think with certain capture software you can use the USB port to hook it up?

          Dazzle

www.dazzle.com has this item that you can use to connect you non digital video camera to through your USB port. I used one until I got a firewire card.

No, you can't use your USB port. I have had that dazzle dvc 80 thing for about a year. It's pretty good. Its cheap too. In terms of software, you can use just about everything. Vitrual Dub, Premiere, VideoWave, etc.

Thanx for telling me. I guess I'll have to get with the times and get a digital camcorder and camera

If you can lay your hands on a video capture board you might save yourself some cash, cos you'll need it to buy the hard disk space you're going to want!!

Have a look for a card with a Bt848 or Bt878 chip on it (A quick check on ebay shows one for $25) . This lets you plug the composite out from your camera into the PC and use software like VirtualDub to record video.

It's not as good as having a DV cam with FireWire, but if you already have a decent camcorder, you might not want to ditch it just yet.

"No, you can't use your USB port."
WHAT!! yes you can...if you dont know then say so but please do not give bad info. there are alot of cap cards that use the usb.
and if you are using an analog camera they work fine.
