new dvd drive glitching badly
Hi,
Just installed a new Dual Layer 16xDVD+-R/RW in my dell 2400 running xp.
I have about 18 Gig free space and 256Mb of ram and a 2.2? processor.
I put it on the second IDE plug and set the jumper to slave.
Plugged the audio cable supplied into the mother board ( internal sound device I think ).
The drive comes up in my computer as E:\
It came with nero 6 ( 6.3.1.20 ? ) cd.
I used the drive to install the "suite" of the first 3 programs in the install menu ( default install? ). Others optional it says.
That seemed all sweet.
Fisrt DVD I put in I got asked to set default drive for dvds so I sellected E:\
So I thought I did everything right......
When playing a dvd through nero showtime ( tried windows media player as well ) it glithches really badly.
Tried several DVDs the one that came closest to behaving itself was my Eagles hell freezes over. It still glitched and lost sinc with audio from time to time.
Others wont play at all and showtime freezes and wont repond.
I think I may have a clash with my stock cd burner and will try taking it out and making the new drive the only one.
Will also try uninstalling my sonic cd burning software if anyone thinks these steps will help.
Others have said should have no probs but y'know that usually means you're gonna hit a wall somewhere

CPU runs at or just below 100% while playing DVD's. Is that normal? Seems to glitch most when it peaks.
