Ripped DVD, Flask fails, now what?

Ok, as I understand it I need to rip the DVD files, use whats basically an AVI wrapper (or converter) to either make the files appear to be an AVI or actually change them to an AVi then encode with a program, say Virtual Dub.

Well, I've ripped the DVD to my hard drive, then used Flask. I get an error AVIFileOpen failed.
I tried a different DVD, same thing.
I tried using the reg patch for Flask (FlaskFix), same problem.
    This is with Version 0.594.

I want to convert a DVD to an Xvid. SO, if Flask doesnt work, what next? Any other program I can use, or anything I'm overlooking with Flask?

    Thanks

flask has been a bad choice for many years and you better stay away from it

use gordianknot, autogk or dvx for the conversion from dvd => mpeg-4

Whoa. Last time I messed around with backups was....5 years ago or so?

They've come along way. GK/AutoGK is the cats meow!

      Thanks!

gordian knot is my no.1 choice for xvid/x264 backups. excellent video tool integration and best quality possible

to make yourself familiar with all the settings, check out the dvd-->xvid with gordian knot guide at http://www.divx-digest.com

Well, I tried AutoGK and ended up with sound sync issues.
Go figure. I've always had problems with audio sync.

Seems the Encoding God hate me.

            - did you ever accomplish a perfect backup so far?

            - we are dealing with avi playback here, right?
how fast is your machine and is it set up properly for playback?

asnyc can be an issue when your hardware isnt up to the job
