    dvd audio only-->to .wav tracks>how?

    What programs, and how do I extract the audio only, from a dvd? I then would like to convert them to .wav format. I really don't know anything about how to do this. Any help with this subject would be greatly appreciated! I dont need the video part of the dvd for anything, only the audio.

      Well, some of the newer WAV recorders (such as the Creative Recorder, which is part of the software bundle included with SB Live! cards) have a feature which allows you to record, in WAV format, what is currently being output to the speakers. IF you have a SB Live!, and have installed the Recorder, look at the list of audio input options and locate the one named "What You Hear" (The feature will most likely have a different name in other software, check the helps), then leave the Recorder Open, play the DVD in a window (so you can see the recorder), when the audio reaches the desired point, start recording. You may have to edit the WAV file to balance the audio and trim the file to the desired length, but there are a lot of quality programs which allow you to edit sound files. If you have a recent Sound Blaster card, the Creative Wave Studio is more than sufficient.

      I have used the method (and programs) to convert several dozen theme songs and other audio clips from DVD to WAV, audio quality depends on the DVD. Just have a LOT of free disk space, five minutes of CD Quality (44.4 KHz), Stereo WAV audio runs 25-30MB, or more.

        Simply use ac3decode. That can directly copy the audio from the DVD to pcm-wav or mp3.

          I usually do it the "what you hear" way for shorter clips as its easier than converting a whole file and cutting it down to the bits you want; but the ac3decode is much better for converting an entire episode/soundtrack for example.

          For you boffins out there, a 5 minute CD Quality (44.1Khz) Stereo WAV file would actually be:

          1440 kilobits per second (bitrate of cd qual. stereo audio files) / 8 = 180 kilobytes per second * (5minutes*60seconds) = 54000Kb / 1000 = 54Mb.
