    Saving or Repairing problem disks

Having no cable tv access, I often purchase series programs that have been backed up to DVD. Often these disks will not play in my standalone
but function ok on the pc. Many of the disks have menus that don't work.
Sometimes I can copy the main VOBs to a new disk and the episodes are watchable on the standalone. This is not great nor what I pay for but
seems to be problematic with many of the different sellers I have purchased
from. So......is there a way I can repair, reauthor or reburn these non-functional DVDs?

    Thanks, G

I am curious, what is the brand and model and age of your standalone player?? The newer players are usually very compatable. Here is a link to Videohelp. Just put your player's name in the DVD player box.

Go to that video help link given above, and see what media your player supports. Could be that your stand-alone player doesn't support the media type (DVD-R or DVD+R). Also, view the DVD's with Windows Explorer and see if they meet the DVD Specification for DVD-ROM.

Where did you get this media from? And when you put the DVD in your computer and view the contents with Explorer, does it have the Video_TS directory containing VOB files? I'm just trying to determine if the discs you have are DVD-ROM or DVD-VR.

Again forum rules, I'm afraid (rule 6). Pirated discs are often not properly formatted DVDs, and apart from the legal problems, they also make problems harder to solve.
