Hello from Spain.I need basic help

    Hello everyone.
I am trying for the first time in my life to burn some dvds.
I am using Nero as the burning sofware.
    This is what I did.
I have the video files (Windows Media extension) on my hard drive already. I tried to burn the dvd as "DVD" and Nero tells me it cannot read the extension. Then I try again but this time burning it as "data" and it works 100%. I have the dvd with all the video. info on it, all cool.
I played the dvd on my PC and then I double check it on my lap top.

Now.... a friend of mine is telling me that my dvd player at home (the one I have on my TV) wont be able to play the dvd because I burn it as "data".
    Could that be true??
    Am I doing something wrong??
    Many thanks in advance.

Date files won't work in a DVD player.
