    Video files play too dark

Hey guys, new to the forum, although I wish I had found this place a loooooooong time ago. Lots of good info here. Could have saved a lot of time if I had showed up sooner haha

My problem is that lately my video files have been playing far too dark (heavy on the 'Red'). I first noticed it after attaching a 2nd LCD monitor to my video card. (NVIDIA 6800GT). Both DIVX player and Windows Media Player have the problem, but with WMP, it will sometimes correct itself if I play with the 'Track Position Slider'.

I searched the site, but didn't find any answers (and my eyes started hurting after 11 pages of searching :s). NVIDIA didn't have any answers, and neither DivX or Windows Media had anything relevant.

    Any ideas?

When I disabled the Dual-Monitor mode, it fixed itself after closing and re-opening the video file. I tried it with a number of different files with different codecs, so I don't think it's a codec problem, and when I show the file in "Thumbnail" view, it shows it proper color, but looks dark when playing it.
I'll try to grab some screenshots when I get home from work.

I guess I COULD just disable the dual-monitor, but the whole point of getting a 2nd monitor was to watch movies while checking email, or net browsing.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Have you tried adjusting the monitor at all? Like the color , brightness does that help or no?

It's only the video playing that has color problems. Programs, menus, icons, and everything else looks fine. If I play around with the monitor color settings I can get it to look better (but not perfect), but then everything else looks weird.

Check the overlay settings in your driver's control panel (screen properties). Most video player software uses overlay mode.

disable overlays in windows media player's preferences.

better yet, use media player classic instead and set output to vmr9 or haali's renderer
