    resuming avi

    hi ppl,
im using directconnect to download a divx/avi movie,
it only partially finished and i used a prog called divxfix to rebuild the index so i could watch it.
if i want to resume the download for this would i have to strip the index first?
also would it matter that i have changed the filename for the avi?
all the other movies iam resuming it from all have the exact same
    size

    Thanks

    Trev

you will not be able to successfully complete a file that has been 'divfixed'

make a copy and 'fix' that on and leave the original file as it was!

I have always thought stripping the index before resuming would work. Oh well, I always make a copy of the incomplete file anyway, use DivFix on it and leave the original incomplete file alone for future resume.

re-index a file using divfix or vd.

you will see that its size will alter!

thus, your client software can not to find the original point from which resuming should be done sucessfully.

maybe your client will be able to resume after striping the avi, but i would NOT risk a downloadfailure or maybe a frozen frame.
copy the incomplete file, fix it and leave the original file untouched would be my advise!

Thanks for pointing that out, Uncas. I always do the 'DivFix-on-Backup-file' method and so have not encountered problems from resuming a DivFixed file.

i was able to resume the avi after i had stripped the index
              with divfix
the 700 meg movie played perfectly

all i can say is yah!

That's a good thing to hear, though it never hurts to resume from a back-up fi;e, in case the server from which you're resuming has a different file from yours.
