VDub-AC3modified works for me. Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying", then set your start and end points for the first half and from "File" dropdown, select "Save as AVI" (name this file something like Movie1of2.avi).
Then, without exiting VDub, select "Move to end of selection (NOT simply "Move to end") then select "Set selection start". Then select "Move to end" (NOT "Move to selection end") and select "Set selection end". You have now selected the second half. From the "File" dropdown, select "Save as AVI" (Movie2of2.avi) and save.
