Then, without exiting VDub, select "Move to end of selection (NOT simply "Move to end") then select "Set selection start". Then select "Move to end" (NOT "Move to selection end") and select "Set selection end". You have now selected the second half. From the "File" dropdown, select "Save as AVI" (Movie2of2.avi) and save.

    Let us know of your success ;>}
Done all that, but splitting of the AVI is not the problem. The problem is I loose the sound. Are you using a separate AC3 file or is the sound also in the AVI file?

    No succes yet...

I've done it both ways many times (and in the last 5 minutes, just to be certain that I'm not giving any misinformation)...

The version of VDub I'm using is 1.4C-AC3.

By the way, make certain that under "Audio" it remains set to "AVI Audio".

OK, thanks. I'll try that version tonight (in three hours). I used version 1.4.8-AC3.
I will come back to you.

        I'm back.
Still doesn't work. When I split the file there is another box popping up with information about the saveing in progress. Both audio entries stay at 0 (zero).

Is there anything I need to load first or in addition?

        I'm using a PIII-550 with Win-XP prof.

I have the same problem. Just tested it with both
          VirtualDub.1.4.8_ac3
          nandub.1.0rc2

          The error message is
'ACM failed to suggest audio decompression format'

My current ac3 codec consist of the following
          iviaudio.ax, MMSwitch.ax, mpgaudio.ax

          Movies used for testing
          Three.Kings.DVDRip.DivX.AC3.iNTERNAL-DDX
          The.Rock.1996.ac3.dvdrip.divx4-realdivx

          Operating System Windows 98

          Any ideas?

            To Smuck

I'm curious - when you installed v.1.4c-AC3, did it not create a sub-directory named "RegFilters" within the VDub directory? If it did, have you run the correct .bat or .cmd file? You'll have to forgive me, since it's been quite a while since I installed this version - and I really don't recall if this was REQUIRED, or if I just did this as some additional item (although i doub it).

The v.1.4c-ac3 downloaded from the divx-digest site was just the executable. Nothing else in the achive. So i put in the existing VirtualDub dir. And ran the aux... program (cannot remeber the exact name). Here i installed the DLL's and reg entry by clicking on the right button.

In a reply (above) i saw you need something like ivi*.ax ? Where can i find it ? The one that's installed on my machine is version 1.0.0.1 (I think, i'm at my work at the moment).

Where do you live ? I think we have to deal with a time difference here. I live in the Netherlands.

              CU, and thank in advance,
              Smuck

                  Hi UncasMS,

                  I have PowerDVD 4.0 installed. So I'm alright ?

                  I use a SB Live! player with 4 speaker (a 1 subwoofer).

                      Hi UncasMS,

Also download the Tsunami mini pack and installed it. Still losing the (AC3) sound when splitting AVi files.

                      Any idea ?

like it has been said before, any vd version with ac3 support or nandub (tried 1.0rc2 this min) should do the job and keep your sound stream.

you'll need to have the proper avi-ac3 filters installed and registered.

                        these two are needed:

                        iviaudio.ax
                        mpgaudio.ax

to register them properly type this for win98:

                        c:\windows\system\regsvr32 /s iviaudio.ax
                        c:\windows\system\regsvr32 /s mpgaudio.ax

                        or this for 2k:

                        regsvr32 /s iviaudio.ax
                        regsvr32 /s mpgaudio.ax

i have copied the two neccessary files with the bat/cmd file to my page.
download it here and use them with the latest nandbub version (1.0rc2). that's at least what works for me.

                          Great UncasMS,

I'll give it a try. But first I will check if I have these *.ax files and check there versions. I'll let you know if I succeed.

the file i uploaded to my page is very small and i'd suggest you use THAT version, since the filters have proven to be fine!

                              To Umast

                              Hi,
I checked the files u sent and I have exactly those files
                              registered as you have detailed.

I even reinstalled Divx codec 4.12 and then the ac3 files.

When trying to play a AC3 movie in VirtualDub_148_AC3
                              I get this error
'The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format.Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.'

There is no problem playing the AC3 movies in MS MP6.4

are you sure you selected dierect streams for both audio + video?

and give nandub 1.0rc2 a try or vd 1.3_ac3
