    Hi UncasMS,

I downloaded the files from your site (using the link).

They were the same files as in the load devilered with EasyDivx. Nevertheless I installed (regged) the ones I downloaded from your site..... but still losing the sound in my combined AVI-AC3 files.

Is there a specific location for these *.ax files. Do I have to do something else before running your batch/command file ?

if your playback with ac3 works, then the installation of those files is fine.

your handling must be to blame!

        Smuck,
I copied my *.ax files to the windows\system directory
then changed to that directory and run eash command.

        still no luck Amen

I tried that too. I even copied a AVI-AC3 file from my XP to W98SE partition to make sure it's not the operating system.

Also downloaded the tsunami pack and installed it.

          Still no luck !!

Anyone else that can help us ?!

              Yep,

Playback in WMP, MiniDVD, BSplay, Zoomplayer and twin player is possible. But splitting with the AC3 sound is not.

I think this is the same problem Amen has.

                Yes

MS Media Player 6.4 plays the movie good with sound.

VirtaulDub-ac3 will not play the movie with sound.

VirtualDub-ac3 can only be forced to play the movie if you sellect 'NO audio'.

I never tried to play the movie with VirtualDub. I use VirtualDub only for splitting (but that doesn't work either).
I will try to play the movie tonight.

I tried, but no sound !

Also I tried to split a AVI-AC3 file on another PC with a clean install of windows XP. Still the same problem. The only thing I can do now is to make a fresh install of Win9x and try it again.

If that does not work either, I'm doing something wrong here.

                    AviChop Compatibility

Smuck is right: If you're using Windows XP, you need to run AviChop in Win98/Me Compatibility mode (right-click AviChop.exe, then Properties > Compatibility). Otherwise, it usually quits after the first split. (The split is fine, and you can do the 2nd split with VirtualDub---just start it at the keyframe before the 1st split's last frame number---but why bother?)

VirtualDub works well, but it doesn't let you split by filesize. Frames contain different amounts of data---so when you have a 1.3+ MB file you want to split into 2 CDs, using VirtualDub to split it evenly can be a neverending guessing game.

I tried that AviSplitCalc, but it didn't work for me. Just use AviChop with the right compatibility mode and you're all set.

I wish someone would post this tip on more forums and include it on more guide pages. I just happened to stumble across it on a German site (then, here).

AviSplitCalc didn't work because I didn't have NanDub---and I didn't have NanDub because it works only with DivX 4. I use DivX 5.

It's too bad, because DivX 5's quality is considerably better. Maybe they'll update those tools.

Meanwhile, I don't think XP is that guy's problem. If anything, XP is a _better_ OS to use for multimedia stuff.

                            ?!!!

Ander: I´m one of the programmer of AviSplitCalc and i´m very interrested for bug-reports.
we´re working hard on the version4.0 with an implemented video-engine.

                            >AviSplitCalc didn't work because I didn't have NanDub---and I didn't have NanDub because it works only with DivX 4. I use DivX 5.

Just download NanDub! It´s a great tool. and that nandub didn´t work with divx5 is wrong! just install the divx5-codec and nandub is working great! and AviSplitCalc is working with DivX5 too!

I was wrong---Nandub is supposed to work only with DivX 3, not 4. From Nandub's Readme:

I've coded Nandub for DivX 3.11alpha and MPEG4v2 and it won't work with any other more recent VKI patches or bundles à la 3.20 or the likes. It will crash, it will complain about lack of memory... In brief:
                              INSTALL DivX 3.11alpha and/or MPEG4v2
                              or
                              GO TO HELL !!! (*cough*)

But hey, maybe you're right---I'll try it anyway...

Nandub can only encode with divx3.11 or M$MP4v2, but yuo don't need to encode anything when you cut an avi file. Cutting divx5 with nandub works fine.
