I don't have DVD-RB Pro yet because of PayPal problems but I figured out how to change my HC Encoder's matrix instead of the default MPEG. Problem is, looking in the help PDF, I can't tell what matrice is good for what types of movies. I'm not a matrix type of guy.

i'm using DVD Rebuilder 0.94 (freeware) with HC Encoder 0.15A. I can't use RME since I'm not using the Pro version.

do we really change settings on encoders to improve quality, cause when the first time I tried this, I used the Quenc Encoder, I was backing up Pearl Harbor, which is like 3 hour movie, everything came out blocky

@rockas - this was a god thing in the time of poor disk quality. But is DVD-RB going to improve its algorithm for those of us who use high quality disks and burn to the edge?

IMHO, Quenc is nowhere near as good as HCEnc. Reencode with HC and you'll see a huge improvement.

Also use RBOpt 21 to set your BR for each "segment" and do use the low BR matrix for under 3Mbps and the VLBR one for under 2Mbps.

Well... the hidden setting "TargetSectors" is there for those "special cases"
If you do a search on Doom9 forum you'll find dozens of oppinions about it
Personally... I use the default.

i have been using RB-pro for a while now, at the beguinning i used it with CCE(the free one, whatever that is) but, now i use it with HC and after seeing the output quality of both, i can tell you that is you don't mind that HC is a little slower, there is no need to buy CCE($58). HC(free) output quality rules.

Will be fun to try out this version and also the patience of the forums moderator...

@elizerrojas - yes, couldn't agree more - HC is just superb and really put CCE to shame. Procoder 2 is still the best though, but it is pricey.

concerning slightly undersized output, me too i prefer the default settings and some 50mb or so undersizing

to be honest, you wont see any difference in output quality be it 4415 or 4480 mb and a slightly undersized amount of data will keep you on the safe side for almost every media

that's why i never even bothered to change target sectors

Lotta people asking about it though, UncasMS. I think jdobbs is going to tighten up his algorithms and Robot1 has given his forumlas, which I shall adopt from now on.

Did you used the installer to make the PRO installation?
If you did, don't forget to check out the help... I spent many hours on it... I sure hope that it is usefull

so, botton line at least in my opinion.
1) procoder is too expensive
2) no need to buy CCE($58) when HC(free) is so good.
3) RB-pro(free), HC in its best quality mode(slowest), main movie only= the best quality output i've seen.
