i know Danpos (by telephone) and the Qmap developer is competente and a cool person but this forum is full of kids where their target is 5 or 10 movies per media and we can't trust in his "logs" as i posted a long time after download one enigmatic and unbelieveble log from rapidshare and post here.the developer was illuded(maybe still) with this forum and the base of his tests are the logs from kids.
the developer posted here against my position but i understand...now maybe he understand me...time changes.
as i advice before, you'll have lots of headaches with Qmap.
blame the kids, not the believer developer!!
they all was trashed from kvcd forum round 2 years ago where i was mod and i fight with lots of lazy guys,i know one by one(lots by telephone).in the end i'm out of the forum too....long,hard but true history...believe or not.still sending greens(you can't see but can feel)

Imo AQE is better at low bit rates then HC. I used AQE when reduction was below 55% and I used HC for anything aboveComment

Hi BR7,
Thanks for your reply. Boy, am I glad that you put the % number in ... because since I am new to this recoding thing I was confused with the term "low bit rate".
BR7, I actually used DVDRB 0.98 with HC019 yesterday to improve on the "Quality" of my video ... my source was my "Satellite" feed copy on a JVCDVDRecorder ... DVDRB said that there no compression needed which I already knew ... and I said go ahead and Rebuild anyway ... and boy after 4Hrs it turned out a result much much better than my original ... crisper and richer color. The only confuses me about HC019 is that even my source is my Original DVD it tends to make the Rebuild Colors "Darker" ... I don't knwo why!?!?!?
Q: BR7, do you think if I ran the AQE on my aforementioned Satellite movie ... so it will not give me a "Better" picture comapre to HC019?
Thanks,
G!Comment

I was confused with the term "low bit rate".
Processed 322,300 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 47.8%
- Overall Bitrate : 2,184/1,748Kbs
- Space for Video : 2,867,662KB
Here is a higher bitrate this is where I would use HC
Processed 11,681 frames.
-- Building .AVS and .ECL files
- Reduction Level for DVD-5: 63.2%
- Overall Bitrate : 4,529/3,623Kbs
- Space for Video : 3,373,534KB
- HIGH/LOW/TYPICAL Bitrates: 4,382/720/3,623 Kbs
I have never experienced darker color so and I am not sure what to do about it so I really can't help you.I said up above that I use AQE when compression is at 55% or lower it's not entirely true I usually use it up to 70% but I always use it below 55% basically it depends on your taste and what you think looks good.Using filters is another good thing to learn it can help out giving you better video qualityLast edited by BR7; 11 Oct 2006, 08:01 AM.Comment

thing is, the % is not the only thing you should look at, you also have to consider the bitrate and if the video has a lot of action or movement. there are many movies out there that use more bitrate than needed and there are also some movies that have a low overall bitrate to begin with.
@UncasMS,
i admit CCE produces noticeably more noise than all the other encoders compatible with DVD-RB, but i still personally use CCE for everything, and ive tried all the encoders (except QuEnc). thing is, screenshots are not a good way to compare encoders, and the noise you spotted in your screenshots are nearly impossible to actually see during playback. CCE isnt the best for lower bitrate encodes, but paired with autoq1 (aka avamat6) its great for lower bitrates as well. this is, of course, my opinion.Last edited by rahzel; 11 Oct 2006, 08:51 AM.Comment

The % is totally meaningless. High %s can simply mean low Qs to begin with as rahzel has hinted at.
The resultant BR is what matters.
I personally wouldn't use CCE for anything less than 2500. I use Procoder 2 exclusively now, except when testing. It is just sensational on low BR stuff. And if you encode extras in half D1, they look as good as the original.

many say the % is meaningless, but imo, it does matter somewhat, especially when you're choosing the matrix you want for the specific movie. for example, even if the bitrate is well over 4000, but a fair amount of compression is needed, using a matrix intended for higher bitrates (such as FOX Home Entertainment) is not a good idea; even the description file for the High/High matrix (which is one of the matrices FOX and others use) in RME states this. the % also gives you an idea of how different it will look from the source. but i agree, the bitrate is the most important thing.
i always backup my movies with movie and menu only, so i NEVER go under 2900kbps anyway. i have never tried any encoder with a bitrate lower than 2900.Last edited by rahzel; 11 Oct 2006, 09:19 AM.Comment
