Can anyone let me know how to split a video file that is too large to put onto one cd? I'm using nero 5.5 and trying to make a vcd. Thank you.

(I assume you're file is in .AVI format (DivX-compressed or otherwise)
Splitting .AVIs with VirtualDub
1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
4) Move slider to approximate halfway point
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie1of2.avi").
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Move to End"
10) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
11) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie2of2.avi").Last edited by setarip; 18 Mar 2003, 02:44 PM. -
thank you
Thank you for your help with splitting video. I used virtual dub and it worked. Although, it made the new files into files that nero would not accept. They were listed as :file(with windows icon). Is there a way to change it so nero can burn to a vcd? Thanks again for any help.Comment

splitting avi,audio sync problem
Hello fellas
Ive just split a film on my hard drive using virtual dub. The problem is when i oppen the movie file into virtual dub,the following notice comes up:
"VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatability. This may introduce up to 5760 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.(bitrate:126.2plus or minus 16.4kbps)"
How do i do this cause the audio does(as the notice says will happen) become out of sync with the whole video. I will really appreciate it if any of you can help me. Cheers guysComment

Splitting .AVIs with VirtualDub
Hi. I tried VirtualDub but when I try to load the .avi I get an error message: "Couldn't locate decompressor for format "XVid" unknown
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video, DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable"
Can you please advise as to what I do now? I'm trying to use VirtualDub to split this avi so I can make 2 vcd disks?
ThanksComment
