    splitting video file

Can anyone let me know how to split a video file that is too large to put onto one cd? I'm using nero 5.5 and trying to make a vcd. Thank you.

(I assume you're file is in .AVI format (DivX-compressed or otherwise)

    Splitting .AVIs with VirtualDub

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
    3) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    4) Move slider to approximate halfway point
    5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    6) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
    7) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie1of2.avi").
    8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Move to End"
    10) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
    11) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" - Save as a new filename (e.g. "Movie2of2.avi").

For cutting MPEG files I believe (Cause you want to write VCD and not an AVI file), just used VCDcutter. I used this tool and very easy. If you want VCDcutter link just ask to Mr Setarip.

            thank you

Thank you for your help with splitting video. I used virtual dub and it worked. Although, it made the new files into files that nero would not accept. They were listed as :file(with windows icon). Is there a way to change it so nero can burn to a vcd? Thanks again for any help.

That was the consequences if you are using Virtual dub for cutting MPG, you must convert it back to MPG using another tool, like TMPGenc (Free), VCDcutter (Share), EOVideo (Commercial), etc...
              before burning.

                  splitting avi,audio sync problem

                  Hello fellas
Ive just split a film on my hard drive using virtual dub. The problem is when i oppen the movie file into virtual dub,the following notice comes up:
"VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatability. This may introduce up to 5760 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.(bitrate:126.2plus or minus 16.4kbps)"
How do i do this cause the audio does(as the notice says will happen) become out of sync with the whole video. I will really appreciate it if any of you can help me. Cheers guys

I used vcdeasy to encode a split file into mpeg so that I can make a vcd. It encodes it but there is no sound once it's done . Can anyone let me know this is happening? thanks.

cut it with EasyMPEG very easy.

In EasyMPEG,you just to set the capability of your disc(etc. 74min)
and it will splitter your mpeg file in more than one VCD/SVCD

                        Use NanDub for VBR Streams

Hi. I tried VirtualDub but when I try to load the .avi I get an error message: "Couldn't locate decompressor for format "XVid" unknown

VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video, DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable"

Can you please advise as to what I do now? I'm trying to use VirtualDub to split this avi so I can make 2 vcd disks?

                          Thanks

                            Are we talking VirtualDubMod here?

Secondly, Ffdshow is a popular filter for viewing XVid - not guarantee it plugs into Vdub though.

Hi. I'm using VirtualDub 1.5.10. Don't understand what you're driving at with "mod". Thanks
