SVCD to CD-RW???

I wanna be able to "test" my SVCDs using CD-RWs prior to burning them off onto CD-Rs.

My current default is to create SVCDs to .bin/.cue prior to burning.

I have just about every authoring/burning software known to man. It's an addiction...I cannot help myself!

Primarily use: Alcohol 120% (latest)
Nero Burning Rom (latest)

So...

Any suggestions and/or rules to follow?

Seems my attempts have ruined a few CD-RWs. Most likely because of lead-in <-> lead-out and the whole finilization of the disc.

How did you manage to accomplish this? Are you sure you can't simply use NERO to Erase ("Quick erase" or "Full erase") the Rewritable CD?

Yes I am sure.

The discs are virtually unreadable by windows and nero finds them corrupt. I am not quite sure.

If you have WinDVD installed on your system, it's perfectly capable of playing back SVCD-format MPEG files. Thsi should provide adequate testing before burning...

Misunderstood...

I made the mistake of not explaining what I am hoping to do...

I capture a weekly television show and then take my disc over to an elderly relatives house to let them view it (no cable) on my dvd player.

Instead of amassing 100s of worthless never to be used CD-Rs I'd like to be able to rewrite. If a particular episode is noteworthy, I wanna be able to copy to CD-R. But my primary focus is SVCD to CD-RW.

SO...what settings do I need using say NERO to record SVCD to CD-RW while maintaining the REWRITING feature of the CD-RW?

You're not first FORMATTING the CD-R/W, I hope. If you are, then STOP IT! ;>}

All kidding aside, that's the only thing that I can think of that would make a CD-R/W no longer erasable...

Have you successfully burned ANY SVCDs (CD-R or CD-R/W) created in this fashion?

Yes...

SVCD on CD-R is fine.

The only thing I can think of that I am doing wrong is forgetting to UNCHECK finalize disc.

I'll try this again making sure this isn't the case.

I was kinda hoping someone in this forum burns video media to CD-RW and could run down their settings for me.

I am pretty experienced when it comes to SVCD, VCD, and disk imaging...

And I personally love CD-RWs...unlike most. I just can't seem to escape this one complication!

Just a final thought - with the prices of CD-Rs as low as they are now, why don't you just burn to CD-Rs - or has it now come down to "the challenge"?

i have never ever experienced any ruined cd-rw when burning svcd to it.

using nero6 my settings are as follows:

- standard compliant cd

- file length: 8+3
- iso 9660

- finalize cd
- write method: dao/disc at once

The only difference between a CD-RW and a CD-R is that the CD-RW can be erased and burned again. Simply burn your CD-RW like you burn your CD-R. When you want some other stuff on it, erase it, and burn again. It is not be possible to burn a CD-RW in a way that it cant be erased and used again (as far as i know!).

I've done a few cdrw svcds without any problems. The only difs I had was with nero which is not user friendly. Again don't format the cdrws, I did at first but I got them ALL to work afterwards and I found 'quick erase' to be perfectly ok.
The weethet site has a good guide to nero.

in what respect?

nero 5.5x as well as 6.x format the cd-rw if it is not empty and you agree to let nero do so.

I find the help menu difficult, often "no such help file exists" or similar. I tried re-installing.
I think it is very good software but for a beginner it is not easy to find the best option for a given burn. I found weethet and other forums to be helpful.
