    Although I personally have no knowledge of the programs and procedures you've described, I would ask the following:

    1) Is it possible that the instructions you followed only pertain to languages that use the English alphabet?

    2) Do you have to "point" the conversion program to a Cyrillic font that resides on your system?

    If not, perhaps a domovoy is having fun with you ;>}

        Well the best way to insert permanent subtitles in a divx file is with virtualdub. In my case i always run direct show first to see if the subtitles are sincronized and how they apeared in the movie only after that i use virtualdub to join the subtitles (srt) file with the avi file.

          romul, would you have the subtitles in the desired language as SRT files or could you create srt files in cyrillic?

          if so, DVD2SVCD should be able to convert your avi to vcd/svcd and insert permanent subs via the srt file.
