The question raised in this thread is actually whether you can successfully PLAYBACK, on a standalone DVD player connected to a television, an SVCD containing an 5.1 .AC3 audiostream - not whether you can create such a file...

      Original post says
I have been fiddling with vcd's for the last couple of days, I have recently learned how to put ac3 audio into and avi file, but is it possible to make a vcd with ac3 sound??? I want 5 channel surround sound, not just 5 channel stereo surround

I use tmpgenc to make my vcd's put it can't read .ac3 files nor can it read the audio from and avi file that has ac3 in it
It doesn't really mention a standalone player.
As I use TMPGEnc to do my VCD's, I thought it might possibly be a help to anyone reading this post.

I know you're well-intentioned so, perhaps, your post, just as the one by UncasMS, will help someone figure out how to multiplex a 5.1 .AC3 audiostream as part of an SVCD.

But do read the entire thread...
