problem with burning VCD using Nero

    I am newbie,
after managing to extract the audio file from a divX movie as wave and then encode the file to VCD using TMPG encoder, and spliting the file using Virtual Dub ( thanks to 1 Smelly Fish),
Now trying to burn it using Nero ver. 5.018,
but as soon as load the file, i get a message that your file is not Mepg 1, have anybody experience this kind of error, appreciate your help,

here is the error messege I got:

    "the ??? is invalid
need mpeg -1 which was encoded for video cd.
    audio 44.1 Khz, stereo 224 kBit/s
    video: 352*240/29.97 hz or 352*24/23.97 or 352*288/25hz,
The following problem which is invalid for a {super}video-CD.
your are creating a video CD v 2.0(CD-i player) compliant CD, but the mpeg file is not suitable for such a disc .
    how would like to proceed?

1 -turn off standard compliance and continue.
    2-Reecode the Video file
    3- Cancel "

I clicked the no. 2, but not much happend and what it showed up the table was ready to burn but the time of VCD was only about 23 minute, compair to the file which is splited is less than half of time, the first file of the movie is about 54 minut.

any way got confused what I did wrong:
to mentiond that while the cutting was in process i could see some info on the status bar of TMPG that showing :

    Video CD NTSC film { MPEG-1 352*240 23.976 fps CBR 1150 kbps, layer-2 4410 Hz 224 kbps}

    Your help is appreciated,
    Thanx

    Hi again
I to have got this error message and it is a result of cutting the MPEG file with TMPGEnc. Once both files are cut and prior to burning to VCD, i run each MPEG file through M1-Edit and repack the files. This will solve the error message in NERO and also creates a MPEG file that when burnt to VCD can be played on a few stand-a-lone DVD players that normally experiencejerky play back when playing VCD's.

Get M1-Edit or M2-Edit, go tools, go Repackitize, load the MPEG file in (dot VCD !!) wait a few minutes and burn to VCD with NERO and things should be fine.

    Cheers

Thank you very much for the reply,
I have downloaded the M2 Edit pro ver 4.00.0018, but unfortunately it is demo and limited to only 10 Sec.

trying to find a way to make it work, so far no luck,

      thank you

"then encode the file to VCD using TMPG encoder, and spliting the file using Virtual Dub"

If this is the sequence that you did this in, you've converted your MPEG1-VideoCD file back to .AVI format...

(You should use TMPGEnc to split the VCD file, NOT VirtualDub)

          Thanks for the reply setarip ;

I did use TMPG to split the file, i use the Virtual dub to extract audio file as wave, becasue after converting the DivX file to Mpeg-1 , there were no sound on file, so I did used the Virtual dub to extract the audio, save it as wave, then used the TMPG to convert it to MPEG-1 using that wave file,
then used TMPG to split the file, but I have problem to burn it.
even though they can be played with windows media player with nice audio. but Nero does not recognize the file as MPEG-1,
1 Smelly Fish advised to use M2 Editor, he had have the same problem though, but I can find the working software of M2 or M1 edit pro. 10 sec demo does not do the job.

Did you as you must, at all times, have the mode set to "MPEG1-VideoCD", or was it set to (it's default) "plain vanilla" "MPEG1" when you split the files?

thank you, it was a good point,
I checked it out, I could not find out was it was set to.
I did a test by cuting a 2 min & set it to MPEG-1 VCD and put it in to Nero, and I did not get any error, I believe it was set to MPEG-1 Auto,
obviously it did not make it as VCD,
now I have to do the cutting again from the beginning to see what it will come out.

              thank you for the reply.

burning is done, but it won't play in my standalone Panasonic A320CA DVD player,
Now i don't know if it is my DVD player or what,
the file on CD is playable using windows media player.

anybody knows a site which provide list of DVD player that plays burned VCD?

                      just wonder...
if the recorded VCD plays well in computer CD Player using Power DVD 4.0, does this mean the VCD is burnd correct,
and the problem is my DVD Player?

                      thanx

                        Hi,
If your MPEG file from the vcd you have created plays on your PC that you have created a compliant MPEG file. Your stand-a-lone dvd player may :
                        -not play vcd's
                        -not play cdr's
-not like the brand of disc your using
-and perhaps not like the way you converted/created the MPEG (a friend has a dvd player which can not play any vcd's created using Flask, it too her a while to finally pin point the problem)

Have you got a friend who may have a dvd player or vcd player that you know plays all of the above so you can test the VCD out you have created ? Or perhaps send it to someone for them to test out.

                        Cheers

thank you all for all the help about my problem,

well, I used my Friend's Sanyo DVD Player, and it did played well, no problem at all,( it did not start to play automatically) so now I know that My DVD player does not support recorded VCD, in the manual it says plays VCD, Not SVCD, but I guess it is the matter of Recorded VCD, I don't know about the original file if it has been converted to Divx using Flask, I dowloaded it form site, and i believe you cannot know how it has been converted to DivX.

anyway I guess I should consider to buy a cheap DVD player for this purpose, now i have to search on different forums to see what I find.

thank you again , you all have very helpful.

Thats good you have it sorted out now
Just a few things, your DVD player may play VCD's but not CDR's. Also if it does play CDR's it may not play certain brands of discs. So dont fully give up hope on it yet, go and buy 5 or 6 brands of disc (I know its a pain in the butt) and just test it out if you like, if it does play certain brands its ganna be a heck of allot cheaper to use those discs than purchase a new DVD player.
VCD's wont Auto start, I am not sure if you can make this happen, i have never come across one that does
Converting the AVI with Flask or other programs shouldnt 'not' make the disc play. What i meant was that my friend experienced skipping with all MPEGs created using Flask

                            Cheers

I guess I should try different VCD brand first to see what happen,

about auto start of VCD, thank you for tip, I did not know, VCD does not auto start.
