Looking for a free converter, I was given a external hdd with a bunch of music I guess my friend used for his Ipod. I noticed the other thread, thought I would start a new one. MP3 is the only format which you can burn on a dvd-r?? Using what proggy? I right click on it and my dvd burner is not shown.

Well to be honest Im doing alot of different things at once, one of which is: I ran across a thread that Paglamon had mentioned burning music to a dvd-r disk as data and playing it on stand-alone player. Of course I was curious but didnt want to impose on that thread and started this one. When I went to send file to dvd-burner, it didnt show up in the send to file (which is the only way I know how to burn a data disk) So then I thought they had to be mp3 format to do such. Now Im not under that impression (mainly because aac also plays in stand alone players). At which point Im lost haha. Im at a point where I do have nero express oem on a disc, I havent re-installed it yet just thought of it earlier. I do know it has a data to dvd option. Whether all this works or not we'll see.
Chewy thanx Ill try that too.Comment

Chewy- after I used build mode in imgburn I clicked on the calculator, and a stream caution/errors: This was the explaination one
W 10:49:09 UDF File System: 20 folder/file names have been truncated due to your current settings.
What does this mean?Comment

Ok so they burned as a data disc and they play in my ps3, but not in a regular stereo. Ofcourse this is an old old boom box. Maybe I miss understood what they meant by stand alone player??
BTW Im laughing at myself, I cant even fill a dvd-r disk w/music. All to what end lolComment

very few hardware players(non-computer) will play a dvd data disk of mp3's
glad you understand the concept of how many a dvd will hold
imgburn will make data cd's also, for the old boom box you would need a program like nero or burnnn
to make an audio cd(70-75 minutes of music)
starting with mp3'sComment

Hi folks,
@ Jensen ... Chewy and other guys here are more Tech Savvy than little old me ... but here is what I think I know ...
- Nero it takes your MP3 and to make it playable on "Stand-alone" machine or in a car ... converts it to a .WAV file ... that is why you can use it on those machine. Which beats your purpose of condensing to MP3 ... since WAV files are larger. And I am not sure how many stand-alones and car players can recognise or playback a DVD-R filled with music!?!?!
- As far as your Q on ... can NERO "Normalize" your various Audio tracks so they playback at same level ... the answer is YES ... however, it will take longer to burn.
@ Chewy ... Chewy if you had to choose between NERO or Burrrn ... which one would you go for!?!? Quality of Burn and Ease of Use?
