    Audio runs out of sync

    Hi!
I asked this questin in another thread, but maybe the chance to be read is better in a seperate thread.

All my svcds run out of sync! This happens very slowly- really visible after about 35 minutes, but in the end of the movie the video stream is abuot 70 to 200 ms ahead or the audio delayed. This is driving me nuts!! Played on the pc there is no problem at all- just in the standalone!

I use variable bitrate mpeg2 videostreams and ordinary stereo (two channel) mpeg1 encoded audio at 256kb/s.

The movie is in pal format: 25 fps

To compress the video i use cinemacraft encoder and tmpgenc plus for the audio.

I multiplex the streams using tmpgenc plus mpeg tools - multiplex : svcd vbr.

Both, the resulting programstream and the burned svcd play fine in powerdvd.

I use the newest version of nero to toast them on cd-r.

I hope anyone has got a solution...
    thx-

If the audiostream was recorded at 48,000Hz, change it to 44,100Hz...

No- it`s 44,100hz and has always been so since entering my hd - the video material is mostly holiday stuff from my camera, edited in adobe premiere. hmm - as i said, everything is perfectly synced as long as played on the pc. Just tried the disk on another standalone- basically the same result (runnig slowly out of sync) .

Could it be tmpeg? Maybe another multiplex tool solves the prob...
Or nero? But I`m running the newest version... hmmm

      plz help me, guys!

"everything is perfectly synced as long as played on the pc."

How does the CD version playback on your PC?

You`re talking about the final svcd? Well as I said in the first post: both, the final mpeg programstream and the burned svcd play fine in powerdvd.

No sync-problems at all. But there must be something wrong with the svcd itself, cause it gives similar results on other standalone dvd players.

Maybe things get messed up at the multiplexing.
Or should I try a lower audio bitrate? 224kb/s?

I did not go over the overall bitrate of 2600. Movie is vbr, min 100 avg. 1600 max 2500 , audio 256 two channel stereo.

when reading around in the web, I heared of strange problems caused by encoders.... I use cinemacraft, but left most of the crucial settings at default...

"Or should I try a lower audio bitrate? 224kb/s?"

Definitely. As far as I know, anything over 224Kbps may cause a playback problem. Additionally, you may be "pushing it" by creating the videostream at anything greater then 2,520Kbps...

Hey- here I am angain- have been on vacation for some days. Tried changing the audio to 224 kb/s but the problem remains!!

Could the stereo-mode cause a problem? Hard to imagine ... whatever- I use 2-channel stereo instead of jointstereo...

                  out of sync

I'm having the same problem! My SVCD runs well on a PC, but the aud/vid is out of sync when played on a DVD player that is SVCD & VCD compatible. I've tried several different programs, but with the same results.

... try this .. make sure there are no menus or intro pictures before the first track of the svcd .. on my Apex 1225 - whenever there is a menu, it seems to throw audio out of whack .. once I get rid of the menu .. it's perfectly in synch ...

                      out of sync, still

...tried that, too. In fact, my movie is plain-Jane. I even tried a 5-min clip. Everything I try to use to create an SVCD loses sync on DVD player, but not computer. There is, evidently, still some issues to be resolved w/ SVCD's.

I'm curious, what kind of DVD player is it? My experience is that only about 75% of players play SVCDs.

Not sure if this is relevant to SVCD but when moving DVB mpeg2 streams to DVD I've found flagging audio as constant bitrate stabilises sync pretty well.
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!
