.wma codec confusion

the problem is i have encoded the audio of a movie into the wma format using windows media encoder 8, which i them used 'wma2wav' to make the files possible to multiplex. however after this i check the properties in win xp it says the audio codec used is 'DivX Audio'.

How comes?

Isn't this suppose to be inferior to wma8 codec.

It may simply be a matter of the two audio codecs bearing the same identifying code (DivX audio is, in fact, a hack of the earlier WMA) - causing WinXP to misidentify it. You might try loading the file into VirtualDub and selecting "File Information from the "File" dropdown menu. This usually provides more detailed (and accurate) information...

i checked the info in vdub and it says the divx audio comperssor compression is used. I thought this was ok but when i looked at the audio codecs installed and it says:
Divx audio comperssor. when i look for more info its called windows media audio and is version 4.02. However i dont see another name for the wma codec which is suppose to be version 8.
Whats goin on?

what i dont understand is: WHY did you go for wma in the first place?

mp3 is just as good and in case you want a lower filesize with best quality use OGG!

with the latest ds-filter ogg and ogm are absolutely easy to handle and they work like a charm.

Also is mp3 better then ogg in your opinion.
