    1) Make certain that TMPGEnc is set to "System (Video+Audio)" at the lower righthand side

    2) "Drag and drop" the .AVI file onto an already opened TMPGEnc. Does the filename appear in BOTH the "Video" and "Audio" sourcefile boxes? If it appears in only the "Audio" sourcefile box, close TMPGEnc and do the following:

    1) Load the file into VirtualDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

The preblem is that all that is set right - it is set to System(audio+video), and it appears in both sourceboxes

If that's the case, it's most unusual that TMPGEnc didn't generate an error message regarding its inability to process the videostream. Therefore, as I mentioned previously, do the following:

        1) Load the file into VirtualDub

        2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

        3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

i'm not sure if there might be tmpeg version which do NOT support divx5

have you successfully converted divx5 before?

if not, look around for a different tmpeg version if no better input will come on this matter.

                    "Channels:........................................ ..............................0 (Stereo)"

Am I correct in assuming that this is a typo and that the information actually shows the number 2 before "(Stereo)"?

As UncasMS mentioned, if you're using an older version of TMPGEnc (which may not support the DivX v.5.xx codecs), you should try downloading and installing the most recent version - which I believe is TMPGEnc v.2.59...

If that doesn't do the trick for you, a "last resort" solution would be to change the file's video codec, as follows:

                        1) Load the .AVI into VirtualDub

                        2) Set "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

                        3) Set "Video" to "Full Processing Mode"

                        4) From under the "Video" dropdown menu, click on "Compression"

                        5) Select the codec that you want to change TO - If possible, set the adjustable settings to the same as the original file

                        6) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and enter a new filename for the modified file

Well, I'm certainly mystified then - since other posters to these boards have indicated that they've successfully used TMPGEnc to convert Divx v.5.xx files.

I would, therefore, suggest that you try the aforementioned "last resort" procedure that I described...

I guess i will have to try it

By the way, I forgot to metion this, but my virtual dub, when you open ANY movie, it does not show anything, nor neither does tmpgenc when you try the selection option
