retard n00b questions

What am i doing wrong....I've used smartripper to extract the .vob and .ifo files everything there seems to be ok. Then I've tried xmpeg, followign the n00b tutorials very closely, to convert the dvd files to divx...that's all i want not vcd or svcd or anything. I can set everything up and i think it is right, however when i try to encode the video with an audio codec selected it gives me an error about not being able to generate the file and to check setup. If i change the audio to uncompressed it works fine, but obviously the file is too big...is there a way to compress the audio afterwards?
I've also used Flask, but they're basically the same thing so i got similar results...also DVD2AVI but there is no audio in the video.
What can i do or what am i doing wrong...

Process the audio separately then. Here's what you can do:
1. Rip audio to WAV using Graphedit/Vob2audio
2. If you wish, you can amplify the volume of the audio using an audio editor, such as Cooledit
3. Convert the WAV to MP3 using an mp3 encoder, such as LAME
4. Mux the MP3, with the video you have created, using nandub

To Create the required LST file, open a TXT file (renamed to LST) and input somethng like the following:
x:\Folder\VTS_01_1.VOB
x:\Folder\VTS_01_2.VOB
x:\Folder\VTS_01_3.VOB
x:\Folder\VTS_01_4.VOB
.
.
.
x:\Folder\VTS_01_x.VOB (The last VOB in the series)

For extracting audio from one VOB file only, you don't need to go though the creation of a LST file.

i got the vob2audio and made the .lst file and set it up but when i click start nothing happens....and how do i use the graphedit program??

Click on what? Have you checked that the LST file is valid?

Consult with a VOB2AUDIO-related guide and check where you have gone wrong. Give UncasMS's guide a try.

what exactly was your problem with vob2audio?

ligossplitter needs to be installed to be able to run the tool.

any error messages?

if you cant get v2a to work, dont even think about graphedit!

Certainly.

1) Load the .AVI into VirtualDub
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
4) Under "Audio", click on "Conversion", select "44,100Hz" (or leave it at 48,000Hz if this doesn't present a playback problem for you)
5) Under "Audio", click on "Compression" select "MP3", "44,100Hz" (or 48,000Hz), "96Kbps" (or higher)
6) Save revised .AVI with new filename


By the way, an advantage of initially having Flask convert with Uncompressed PCM (.WAV) audio is that it ensures that you'll maintain audio/video synchronization ;>}

With V2A I used the LST file that smartripper made, but no audiostream came up...I'm going to try the virtualdub compression of the audio...
