Worlds only DivX Compatible DVD Player

The worlds only DivX Compatible DVD Player is currently only available in Europe, which is complete madness.

I am thinking about importing these to the USA. I have spoken to the manufacturer and they will adapt the DVD Drive for Region 1 if the volume is right.

Please let me know if you think I should go ahead and do this. The volumes I would have to order are quite high so if you know anyone who would want one, get them to post their interest on this forum.

Here is the specs for the DivX DVD Player:

    ·Full DVD/MPEG/DivX ver. 4 and higher compatibility
    ·VCD/SVCD/CD/MP3/CD-RW/DVD-RW
    ·JPEG Picture CD viewing
    ·Progressive Scan Video Out
    ·Slow Motion
    ·Parental lock, Multi-Language, Multi-Subtitle, Multi-Angle
    ·Remote Control
    ·TV Type (PAL and NTSC)
·Aspect Ratio (4:3 Pan and Scan, 4:3 Letter Box, and 19:9 Wide)
    ·S-Video Output
    ·Composite Video Output
    ·Component via SCART Output
    ·RGB via SCART Output
    ·S/PDIF Outputs
    ·Dolby Digital/DTS/MPEG 5.1 Digital Output (via S/PDIF only)
    ·Optical/Coaxial S/PDIF

    no, don't do it.

I had been told and seen, it costs £399 UK which I think is real cheap for a DIVX DVD player

    (made by KiSS Technology)

Dont import it yet, wait a few months, then go for at as any bugs/problems will be found with in the first few months, then of course, they will improve on it, and solve any problems and perhaps add new features to it, so it's best to wait a while, until then the prices would have also come down by then!

"I am thinking about importing these to the USA. I have spoken to the manufacturer and they will adapt the DVD Drive for Region 1 if the volume is right."

Apparently, the previous two posters don't understand that you're desirous of becoming the USA distributor for this product - and you're not seeking to purchase just one for your personal use.

        A few observations/suggestions, if I may:

        1) Don't be overly impressed with their statement that, "they will adapt the DVD Drive for Region 1 if the volume is right.". All it takes is a tiny change to the firmware

        2) Are they willing to sell to you on open credit (e.g. 60 day terms for payment) - or are they insisting that you either prepay or open Letters of Credit?

        3) Do you know what your landed cost (product plus overseas freight plus inland freight plus insurance plus duty) per unit will be?

        4) Do you know if the protect is patented - or could (lower cost) competitors spring up overnight?

        5) What's the minimum initial order quantity?

        6) Will you require storage facilities?

        7) Will they pay for advertising in the U.S., or will that be your responsibility?

        8) How will you deal with warranty repairs?

        9) Do you have a business plan?

        10) Have you ever run your own business?

        11) Have you determined how much capital will initially be required?

        12) If the product really "takes off" in the U.S., do you know how quickly the manufacturer will be able to replenish your inventory?

        13) Will you have the EXCLUSIVE rights to sell the product in the U.S.?

        14) Do you have an idea of what kind of staffing you'll require?

        15) Do you have a plan regarding HOW you'll sell the product (mail order, online, salesmen) and to whom (sub-distributors, retailers, end-users)?

        16) Do you have the intestinal fortitude to "take a shot" at becoming a very wealthy person in a very short period of time - or the despondent owner of a failed business?

I somehow doubt that a divx player will be a commercial success, particularily at such a high price. Furthermore, divx playback on the KISS Player is somewhat limited (no QPEL, and I think there are problems with GMC). It might be just as easy to purchase a tv-out card, and have unlimited divx playback capacity.

yeh, i know what u mean Batman (na na na na na na na na BATMAN!) sorry, got carried away there....

            anyway

the good thing I guess about the KiSS player is it's upgraded through firmware to support latest codecs.

the bad thing about it, is what u said Batman, and also, won't play my fav codec! but it is understandable why.

if that kiss player really were upgradable via firmware, making divx3 availbale wouldnt be a real problem, dont you think!

that player is tooooo limited to ever be succesful!

Equator has announced a Tetra-based player, which will be used in the Polaroid-DVD-Player DV700 for example.

I still have that email in my account Sir, the reason they don't want to include 3.11alpha is simply cause it's "illegal", that's why and they wreckon they can make better DIVX codecs.

                  of course THEY dont

but other ppl might - but i dont think it is possible with that player but i'm quite sure other player will support an option like that

I agree on the last part but I don't quite understand the first part:

                    of course THEY don't

amazing you dont see the reference to your very sentence:

the reason they don't want to include 3.11alpha
                      stopped reading/thinking before posting?
