    DivX file requires a password

I downloaded a DivX file that uses version 1.4.1 to open. This file is a complete move (about 400MB) but always prompts me for a password and needs to connect to the internet before it runs.

Is there a way to 'copy' this file or modify it so that it does not require an internet connection all the time?

    Thanks

are you talking about a zipped file(s) or are you actually saying an avi file is asking for a pw?

    havent heard of the latter.

make sure to run an up2date antivirus + firewall to eliminate potential trojan or virii!

Sounds like Windows Media Player trying to locate one of he codecs online. Use a different player. Zoomplayer as an example.

          what I meant

          Thanks for the reply fellas.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - I'm kind of new to this.

The file is a DIvx file and the player version 1.4.1 is a DIVX player. For a few other files I had, all I had to do was file open and play. But this one requires a password that I register with DIVX and it connects to some DIVX site everytime I want to open it.

Do you know a way to get around the problem? Thanks!

find out what codec was used for this file, install it and you're done

how to find out about the codec?

take a look at the thread: no video no sound.... on top of the forum

use gspot and post a screenshot so we might be able to help you

Maybe it's DivX 5 asking you to register but I thought it would decode the files just fine. Try to download the basic version.

              I have no other suggestions.

                  It's a DivX movie file

Thanks for the input fellas. I tried gspot as UncasMS suggested but it says file not recognized and as for codecs, it says 'na'.

I checked the file: it's a Divx Movie file, and not a mpg, avi etc.

Any suggestions where I go from here?

can you load the file into NANDUB and take a look at file => file information?

like i said before: post a screenshot

Are you saying it ends with *.divx?

i have experienced a register thing that pops up in the divx player, and so i dont use it at much. maybe you have a pro version of divx codec and you didnt register. try it in a different player. BSplayer, WMP6.4 are good players.
