    converting MPEG-1 to DivX???

    Hi there,
With VirtualDubMod I "scanned" Video file for errors. My Result was: "no corrupted frames" and...something like "cannot decode the file" or "uncodable file"can't remember, anyway I did run GSpot to check out the codec and seems original file is a MPEG-1.

does this mean VirtualDub cannot convert MPEG-1 in Divx?
I also tried without success Direct stream copy to cut the credits...

Bythe way, I'm trying to fit the original video file (740 MB) in a CD-R 700...

    any alternative suggestion?

if it is an mpeg-1 format, why dont you simply burn it as VCD?

should easily fit on your 700mb cd

Ok thanks a lot Uncas, but I launched Nero and tried to burn the file as VCD. When I dropped the file it said "turn of standard compliance and continue" or "re-encode the video file" cause stream encoding invalid for Super V. Tried both options, the first still ending a little above 700 and the 2nd largely above.
      I'm definitely missing something....sory newbee

i never use nero for burning vcd/svcds thus i cannot comment on that problem.

if your file is mpeg1 you shgould burn it as VCD, mpeg2 would equal SVCD

if nero doesnt accept it as input (nero is quite picky that's why i never used it for bruning movies) you might want to try VCDEasy which works very good for me.

it is freeware and should be found via google or any decent search engine

Must say u provided a great soft, but did not help!
or maby didn't figure how to use it.

anyway, analysed the file with the MPG Tools and got this message:....." mpeg stream will be padded on the fly -- hope that's ok for you!
unknown user data tag id 0x4d encountered (not a problem, most likely caused by a specific MPEG encoder)
autopadding requires to insert additional 97679346 zero bytes into mpeg stream (due to 370559 unaligned packets of 370560 total)"

If I drag&Drop the file I get an error message "Forbidden Characters "

Should I believe the file is corrupted and throw the towel?

                sorry to hear that

since i hardly ever use mpeg1/2 i cannot give you any decent piece of advice.

maybe someone else with more experience on mpeg1/2 might be of help.
