Divx pro 5.0.3, piece of crap!?!? OR is it me?

anyone else tried it yet? if yes upto what extent?
I had nothing but problems, infact so many problems that I removed it completely and re-installed divx 5.0.2 pro, and i am a happy camper ..

The only time I don't have any problems with it is when I convert something with 2-pass encoding. If I use 1-pass then the bitrate bottoms out at parts with lots of action and it gets REALLY blocky. Other than that, no, I haven't had that many problems with it.

That's not to say that alot of people haven't had problems. This board is full of post about how much it sucks. But, like I said, as long as I make a 2-pass encode it works fine for me.

tried it after the release a while ago

had no severe problems but at some points i had ugly macroblocks which shouldnt have been in the movie according to the bitrate/kind of movie.

the promised quality improvements, however, using Nth passes did NOT show in my tests.

and the fact that shortly after 5.03 version 5.04 was released clearly shows that newer version than 5.02 are far from perfect/satisfying.

i stick with 5.02 and xvid.

Divx 5.03 had numerous problems, divx 5.04 is now under development. Divx 5.02 pro/xvid/sbc are better options.

I have made one DivX 5.0.3 file and I will NEVER do it again. I hated the results. It was my favorite movie also so I could tell all of the consequences of how well it compressed and such. DivX 5.0.3 I am happy to say isn't on my computer anymore

going back to the topic i had a pretty rough day with divx 5.03, three times i didnt finish encoding, G knot crashed on me twice and gave list of stupid errors in its log, i still havent finished reading that.
for one moment i thought my perfect windows xp for last six months has been ripped but NAH!
got rid of 5.03 and went back to 5.02 , and all the problems just went aways like they never existed.
good to hear batman that they are working on the new one, guess i will take a look at their website to find out the status of development..
thanks for the heads up though

Uh yeah....looks like my joke felt kind of flat.

                      Please accept my sincerest apologies

Divx 5.04 basically fixes the many bugs introduced in Divx 5.03. Divx 5.04 is currently in testing stages.

                        no worries man!

btw in your earlier post you mentioned sbc, i am not very familiar with that, can you please pass on a url shedding some light on it.
                        thanks in advance.

SBC---2 pass divx 3.11 alpha encode using Nandub.

www.doom9.org read the sbc guides there. It is very old, and many consider it to be outdated, however it remains popular with a hardcore legion of fans who claim it offers the best quality. SBC encoding is may be more of a hassle too.

i dont get it why you're picking on somebody elses age for no reason at all.

                              and the tv thing..

Seems divx 5 encoded movies won't play in win media player and therefore won't be displayed on the tv set via a geforce4 128 mb card using the clone setting.

I know im probably in the wrong thread etc, first post and all.. but is it possible to get divx 5 encoded movies working in media player, but more importantly on the TV set?

                              thanx.
