How long does it normally take you to convert a full 2 hour dvd to 1 cd? (not counting ripping time, just conversion time) If you vote for anything under 3 hrs can you tell me how you did it and what programs you used. thanx in advance
This is kind of hard to answer, considering that the use of various filters will significantly affect encoding speed. Convolution3D, for example, and many other smoothers can slow down things by as much as 50% or more.
That said, I can achieve 25-30 fps for PAL movies (simple cropping & resizing used) and 12-17 fps for NTSC movies (cropping & resizing, in addition to the required decombing).
I get 17-20 fps on NTSC films with the archaic Flask SiS using DivX 5 1-pass and cropping; on a P4-2.53GHz-256RAM
But when re-converting an avi with VirtualDub (full processing mode) the speed gets up to 30 fps.

UncasMS,
I am still using the older version of Avisynth here. I did try the newer Avisynth version, but had trouble locating the appropriate MPEG2DEC*.dll file. Would you have a link you can share with me? I am currently using MPEG2DEC3.dll and it was a superb speed improvement over MPEG2DEC2.dll. I sure hope that moving up to AVisynth 2.5 (and with the use of an equally-fast MPEG2DEC*.dll filter) will give me even more framerates.

Is Flask that slow?
I am using the old-Willamette-core P4 @ 1.8GHz and I am getting (almost) the same speed with your Northwood-cored 2.53GHz?
Originally posted by UncasMS yo u have got mpeg2dec3.dll and you're looking for mpeg2dec2.dll - is this correct?
i could send you my three version mpeg2dec1-3.dll if you want.
dont really know where they came from - guess tsunami 399.
No. I was just looking for a MPEG2DEC*.dll file that will work with Avisynth 2.5. If I remember right, the MPEG2DEC3.dll file that I have does not work with Avisynth 2.5, so I figure I need to get a variant of it.
The MPEG2DEC3.dll that I have actually came from Tsunami pack as well. When I have the chance, I will try reintalling Avisynth 2.5 and see (and confirm) whether it works.
i dont know converting dvds must not be my thing. cuz spending 3-4 hours for a 2 hour video is a waste of time. specially when the video isnt near where i want it to be. i found that out the hard way i guess.

It takes me 13 hours on my PIII 450MHz to do a 90-110 minute DivX. I've never DivXed a movie that was 2 hours or longer. And why on earth would I make it 870MB? What a waste of bitrate and space on the second disc.
