Audio problems AVI to Mpeg using TMPGEnc ?

I'm a newbie at this guys and i have been reading and searching this forum and it has helped me alot. Now i'm at deadend with this. I have an Divx avi movie file that i'm trying to convert to mpeg and use Nero to burn a VCD. I successfuly converted the avi file to mpeg using TMPGEnc but it had no sound at all. Then i successfuly ripped the audio from the movie and created the wav file separatley. I loaded the avi and audio wav file into TMPGEnc and i still don't have sound. I have messed around with the " Enviromental " settings and the tab "VFAPI" in TMPGEnc just like i read in one of the posts here but i still have not had any luck. I have attached a picture of the file info taken from Virtualdub . If anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I also loaded the avi file into "GSPOT" and i attached the picture.

the avi has ac3 audio.

according to the vd screenshot your system lacks an ac3 codec.

thus the question is: HOW excactly did you convert that ac3 to wave??

if i were you i'd install an ac3 codec, then extract the ac3 again, now convert this ac3 to wave with besweet and afterwards i'd try again with tmpeg.

That's incorrect. VirtualDub's indication "Unknown(tag2000)" is merely an indication that VirtualDub can't handle the .AC3 audiostream.


(The GSpot image, on the other hand, clearly indicates that, in fact, gt500_2003 has 2 .AC3 codecs installed)

i have of course noticed what the gspot indication was, but based on experience, gspot is not always stating correct information.

that's exactly why i asked for the specific way of converting the ac3 to wave.

Thanks guys for your help. I have checked and i do have the AC3 codecs installed. But i still have no sound. I used Avi2Wav to rip the audio from the avi file. I have tried everything i can think of and i can't get the mpeg file to have audio. I loaded both the avi and the wav file into TMPGEnc and went to the "Options" tab and under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclicked on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increased it to the highest priority and that still doesn't work. I also tried setting the other listings under the "VFAPI plugin" tab to the highest priority and still doesn't work. I'm not sure if GSPOT is suppose to work accurately with mpeg files, but i have attached the mpeg file info that i created with TMPGEnc ,if you guys would like to take a look. I will also post again and attach a pic with the mpeg file info from VirtualDub. Thanks again guys for your help.

Yes, the original avi plays fine and has audio. The converted sound stream works fine in Windows Media Player 8.0.

The following may resolve your problem:

1) Load your original .AVI into NanDub
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
3) Set 'Audio" to "No audio"
4) Save your silent .AVI with a new filename

5) Load the silent .AVI FIRST into TMPGenc
6) Load your .WAV audio file SECOND into TMPGEnc
7) Save with appropriate MPEG1-VideoCD settings

I still can't get any audio. I followed your instructions exactley and the mpeg is still silent. Thanks for your help everyone, i'll keep trying.

Although for processing of .AC3 audiostreams the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" should be set to a priority higher than or equal to the highest of all of the other listed plugins and readers, that should mean setting its value to no higher than 1 (while all others listed should be 1, 0, or -1)...
