Trimming down size of divx file

I have a movie that I need to reduce by 1MB so I can burn it onto a CD. Cutting parts off the movie or overburning is out of the question.

I'm thinking there may be a way to reduce the file size a bit by eliminating error correcting codes of the file. Can anyone please help?

Are you certain you can't use NERO and simply overburn the CD-R by 1Mb?

All data in the video-file is absolutely nessecary. If you want to save 1 MB you may choose one of this ways:

- reencode audio with lower bitrate
- reencode the a small part of the video (intro or outro) with lower bitrate
- delete a part of the video (intro or outro)

I would prefer to reencode the outro because most divx-codecs waste to much space on "white on black"-scrolling-text.

How do I re-encode just the outro?

if your file is an avi load it into virtualdubMOD

make a selection of the last coupole of seconds of your file
(write down the STARTframe of your selection)

go to video => compression
select the same codec that your avi has been made with and go for a low(er) bitrate (maybe 500-700kbps?)

now save this selection via FILE => SAVE AS

check the final sze of your new part.
if it is as small as you need it to be you will need to save the MAIN part of your movie from start to the very frame where you started the selection for the re-encoding part.

select this main part, set audfio AND video to direct stream
=> FILE => SAVE AS save this to a new name

now you should have an unaltered main part and your NEWLY encoded 'outtro'

load part1/main into vdmod again
next use FILE => APPEND SEGMENT (this is how it is called in the suggested vdMOD version)

set audio + video again to direct stream and save to a new final file
