BEST is a matter of definition but for creating mpeg-4 formats (ogm in my case) i use DVX only

lolz.... well as i WAS a newbie, i suggest you to start with DVDX or GORDIAN KNOT.... coz these are the only two promising softwares.... you might get BUGS or audio and videos problems in DVDX but GK (Gordian Knot) is a for sure thing.... All you need is to Read the guide carefully first and dont go into details about encoding...
