    What program to use?

    Hi...

Just wondering witch program you folks think is best for converting DVD to DivX 5.0.5?

I`m searching for one witch can run a 2-pass encoding, and shut the pc down after encoding. (can live whitout a shutting down option)..

Oh.. And i`m not interestet in Dr. DivX since it`s not freeware!!

    ok...

since you are looking for freeware I would recommend
using the Xvid codec than the Divx 5.05....

but this decision is on your hands.

for programs and guides on high quality rips

using an mpeg4 based codec ... check out this site

    good luck!!!

I used gordionKnot, I find it gives great quality and is simple to use after you try it once while following one of teh guides to lead you through it.

        check out my site

I personally prefer 3.11a (old is gold)

better quality and you can fit a whole movie on 1 CD if done correctly.

see my site for more details.

on the other hand if you wanna be "cool" and be like everyone, go for DIVX 5.0.5 but I think its best if you experiment!

nothing can beat a nandub 2pass encoding!

using modern codecs like divx 5.x or xvid is not a matter of being cool.

b-frames and many other features make them the better choice for many users - me included.

i will never again touch divx3!

in addition to the guides you could find on my site, i recommend DVX for creating avi or better ogm files from your vobs.

click on the DVX button in my signature for more.

That is what I was trying to point out....

I still would touch 3.11a still do. not until i see some really good results for myself

but its a matter of choice and experimenting to find the method and codecs to suit your needs

damn uncas, you ruled out my xvid proposal on stable Xvid
              by mentioning bidirectional frames..

                    Thanks all of you...

I think I`ll give Gordianknot a try... And i`ll stick with the DivX, Xvid might be fine but as shiny#3 point`s out
