    First Time With Subtitles.... (help!)

Ok, I have a foreign language movie, and in DVD Decrypter it says that it has two subtitle tracks, so I ripped with one, and they didn't show up, then I tired both, and nothing.

I have never ripped anything with subtitles before, so I don't know alot about them, I don't know how to make them show up or anything.

I want to encode this to DivX (with subtitles) I tried just a sample of it, to see if the subtitles would show up, (converting to DivX) but nope. (I Didn't think that it would work anyways... but gave it a try anyways)

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

( I want to convert to DivX WITH the subtitles appearing )

Ok, first of all, what program are you using to rip the subtitles? Either subrip or vobsub will work, but anyway you have to have vobsub so the subtitles can show up... And dont worry, vobsub, my recommended, will find any subtitle available...

And other thing... you have to encode, both movie and subs, separately, you cant rip them and encoded them at once...

Hello, to add the subtitles to the movie.
After you rip the subtitles tou have the file srt, or sub (ripped with subrip). This kind of files are recognised by a filter called vobsub it's a program you install. You have to call the subtitle and the file with the same name in the same foder
Ex. The Matrix.dvdrip.cd1.avi (this is the movie)
The Matrix.dvdrip.cd2.srt (this is the subtitle)
If you install vobsub correctly, when you open the movie the subtitles open automatically.
For me this is the best way to have the subtitles.
Then you can download the BSplayer, this is a really good player, the same thing with this, you call the movie and the sub with the same name and the program recognise the sub.

Then other option it's to put the subtitles when you encode the movie, this is a bad option (for me) because after you encode with subtitles you can't "turn off the subtitles" are pasted and the image behind the letters it's deleted.

So, I recomend you to use the BSplayer first, and if you are going to use the subs often I recomend you to install Vobsub.

Listen, one big problem with the subtitles it's the synchronization with the movie.
When you rip the subtitles with subrip directly from the DVD this usually don't happen.
But when you download the subtitles usually are not in synch with the movie, for get this fixed you need other tools.
In case you need to synch I tell you how.
                  I hope this help.
                  Bye

Use SubMux in VobSub if you want to mux your subtitles together with your movie....

                      1. Rip dvd in backup mode, then use flaskmpeg to convert directly with subtitles (it will promt you to select the audio and subtitle stream)

                      2. If you already have divx avi and srt subtitles: use subtitleworkshop to convert subtitles to substationalpha; use virtualdub's subtitle plugin to encode ssa subtitles in the video (this plug-in doesn't come with virtualdub, but you can find it on virtualdub's web page)

Qyd, why always you guys want to encode the subtitles in the video?. It is crap!.
If the guy have already the avi and the srt, the better it's to look the movie on bsplayer or similar or install the vobsub.

that's what the poster asked, so i try to answer his question

it makes sense with foreign language movies
(just makes it easier to play, even my gradma can doube-click an icon, but she never finds the 'load subtitles' menu)

personally, i find it nice to incorporate subtitles and extra audio streams in matroska files

ok, but you're able to change the font size, and color with that?
I know about foreign language movies because I my natural language it's spanish, that's because I sucks writing english, every movie I get it's foreign to me so I always have to adjust subtitles.
Ohh, say hello to your gradma for me.
                            bye

Qyd, you have suggested what sounds like the best idea to me, I installed VobSub, and it's confusing as hell. I know Flask Mpeg, and I think that I will be able to do it that way.

That was the way I wanted to do it anyways, I want the subtitles on the movie. (I own the DVD, I just want a DivX copy, and the movie is in Italian, with English Subtitles) Although in DVD Decrypter it is listed as having 2 sets of English subs... Well, maybe it's just two sets because of the length of the movie huh?)

Well, I will try your method out tomorrow, and let you know how it turns out.

                              Thanks, -- Vic_Vega
