xvid encoding w/out audio, later problems

I ripped a dvd, and while encoding to xvid, forgot to put the audio file and then deleted it after the encoding. I took the dvd later and only ripped the audio, but now sticking it to the avi file, it's out of sync. any suggestions on how to find the appropriate delay so i can put the audio on the avi?

By watching the lips and listening - to estimate the delay. Then experiment with the estimated delay...

how do i preview avi with the added sound in virtualdub or nandub?

I suggest the following.....
just sync the file with e.g. virtual dub.....

get yourself the MV2 player......

MV2 player offers you the option to delay or preroll
the audiostream wih a "slider" in the audiooptions
during playback....

the wheel shaped slider also indicates, by how many
milliseconds you either delayed or pulled the audio
forward..... you can use this value to interleave your
audio again with virtual dub


make sure that your audiofile has a format
that provides either a constant bitrate....
or that the videoframe audiotime /progression yields
a linear function...

If you rip with SmartRipper (and possibly other ripping software also), the filename will include the correct delay (Soundtrack_([0x80]_Audio_English_AC3(2Ch)_48kHz___)_Delay_-96ms.ac3).
If you have clipped the beginning of the movie you'll have to subtract that from the delay indicated.

but I am not quite sure that the audio is an AC3 still

the mp3 that was made form the ac3 file (using robot4rip) is 1:27:something long, and the ac3 is 1:51:something long...

when i muxed avi with ac3, the video and audio match, but the video is running slowly for a few moments and then it fasts forward and so it does on and on.

ok, now i saw a log file of ac3 converting to mp3, and it's full of errors. what do i use to convert ac3 to mp3?

i tried besweet, but the mp3 is full of errors again. it's probably the ac3 file that is corrupted or smth, so i'll have to rent the dvd again... darn it.
