i am having problems using dvdtoogm. whenever it gets done encoding the audio it has an error with vdubmod saying that "wrong file version". what do i do?

Have you used the VirtualDubMod Version which comes with the DVDtoOgm-Installer?

Which AviSynth-Version do you use?

Maybe post the log-file or how you made your settings...

nvm i found what was wrong.. i didnt create the subtitle file with vobsub. but one thing i found wrong was with the bitrate calculation. i try to make a 25 min anime with subtitles into a 300mb file and the quality is crap. can anyone look into this? i have switched back to using gordian knot because i cant get this to work out right for me

Hi, just started playing around with dvdtoogm (great job!) but I find the 1-pass/2-pass/n-pass settings very confusing. I haven't been able to do a 2-pass encoding (1-pass went fine). It kinda looks to me as if the 2nd time around the codec cannot find the log file of the first pass, with both divx and xvid... sorry, i'll be more precise when I understand what's going on. Anybody else has the same problem?

If you are not yet fully in knowledge of what all the setting mean i suggest some DivX-Feature-Documentation-Reading, it you can find it here.

You also can use the DVDtoOgm Codec assistent. For this make sure the "Assistent:" in the Options-tab is checked and you've selected the right DivX-Version. In case this is all fine you simply need to check the "Multi-pass" Option in the "Encode"-Tab and hit the "1st-pass"-Button. The Codec Window will open. Now you simply need to klick the "ok"-Button. Do the same with the "Nth-pass"-Button.

Also make sure that you read the DVDtoOgm Guide in the "Guide"-Tab carefully or read the DivX-Digest Guide.

If this all fails, contact me again here, with detailed Infos about what you did and the Encoding Log-File...

Ok, my bad. I wasn't looking too carefully at the options of the codecs. Today I did both divx and xvid 2pass encodings. Keep up the good work!

On the side: I think dvdtoogm doesn't let you encode the video part only (and I guess audio only too). Maybe just a warning would be better?

some problems with Xvid 1.0 RC3

First, I apologize for talking about Xvid in this forum. But as the official announcement of DVDToOgm is here, I think this is the right place to post bugs of this tool.

Well DVD, as you sure have already supposed, my problems are related to Xvid.

I leave Xvid with default settings plus Adaptive Quantization (lumi masking) both on 1st pass and 2nd pass. But when I start encoding all these settings get messed. One curious effect is that "max consecutive b-vops" field shows a very big number instead of 2.

For some reason DVDToOgm does not remember Xvid settings.

I've also tried DVDToMkv. In fact I want to create mkv files so when I use DVDToOgm I convert ogm files to mkv with Vdmod. DVDToMkv has the same problem as DVDToOgm with Xvid settings.

edit 1: BTW, does internal credits start work with DVDToMkv and Xvid 1.0 RC3?

edit 2: I've seen on sources from corecodec.org that dvdtomkv uses credits_end, credits_rate, credits_mode, credits_quant_i... registry keys. AFAIK all those keys are no longer used on Xvid 1.0, they've been replaced by zones. So I suppose this feature does not work right now.
