This is a very common problem.

Try going to Option >> Environmental Setting >> VFAPI Plugin

Then right-click on Directshow and increase its priority until it is above all others. Make sure to set everything back to normal when you're done.

What format/codec is the source video? Are you able to open in other apps (WMP, virtualdub, etc)?

            1) Load the original video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

            2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

            3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

"and how do u take a screeen cap again"

Press printscreen, and a capture of your screen will be saved to the clipboard, then paste into the application of your choice.

"where can i get a pack of a whole buncha codecs"

You can download "codec packs", but I strongly recommend against this as loading too many codecs can often cause problems. It's generally better to identify the codec(s) that you require and get them individually.

get the xvid codec at: http://www.xvid.org/

To post an attachment, use the reply button below the last message in the thread (rather than just the quick reply box) then, just under the reply & options field is a place that says:

                        Attach file:
                        Maximum size: 102400 bytes

However, if you can't open in TMPG there's a good chance that Virtualdub won't like the file either. If this is the case, download a program called GSPOT. You can get it here
