    pausing encoding

    i'm a newbie to divx

is there anyway to pause the ecoding, get out of the program and resume it again?? i have not really tried flask preview yet so forgive me if its in there .. it just really convenient esp if ur machine is very susceptible to crashes, i dont' see why it can't be done since the encoding progress can be saved before the insert of a keyframe??

also i can't find a link anywhere to lame mp3 codec ... can someone post it??

    thanks

Well if you're concerned about your PC crashing you can always encode small bits at a time and then join all the files using virtual dub or something ... I'm pretty sure there's something about this in the articles section of divx digest ... about the codec ... I'm pretty sure you could find it somewhere on the site too

You could also try putting the program priority to idle. It is not exactly the same as pausing, but it will wait for all other programs to get their share of CPU time/cycle, before using up what is left. This way, you can do things with the computer (play games, watch a movie, etc.) without experiencing any slow-downs. The encoding process, of course, will be affected, but as long as you don't leave unnecessary programs active while you're not using the system, it's perfectly fine.
