audio codec to use with divx?

can someone please recommend me a good audio codec for use with virtualdub and divx.

mp3 (ABR) and ogg are giving a lag where the audio is about 200ms behind the video.
mp3 (CBR) works perfect though.

actually my real question is how can i make those work, is it a problem with the codecs because they are more complex to decode than CBR? my cpu is 1.6ghz on xp.

i don't think it's a problem with loading because it's doing a perfect 200ms of lag every time.

since abr/cbr/vbr + ogg and ac3 run fine for most ppl, you must be doing soemthing wrong

i prefer vdMOD over vd

which did you use and what interleaving settings?

i'm using the original virtualdub 1.5.10

interleave is set to 1 frame. i trust this is a good setting and yes i did play around with this but always got the same results.
