My goal is to have a dvd-9 shrinked onto a dvd-5, will a compression using DVD-RB and CCE ( w/o messing with the mpeg matrices) offer better quality than having it encoded into a KDVD?
KDVD vs CCE

- why did you post in the divx section when you're asking about dvd9 => dvd5 via rebuilder (which has a subforum of its own)?
- why do you want to deal with a modified mpeg-1/2 gop structure (kdvd) when you can achieve creating a proper and decent dvd(5)?
i personally wouldnt even think about k/m/r/godknows-dvd but use plain and simple mpeg-2 dvd format (via dvd rebuilder + procoder2)Last edited by UncasMS; 31 Jul 2005, 06:57 AM. -

I am in agreement with UncasMS on most of the other points.
The exception being, you will acheive very good results with the freeware HC_15 encoder by hank315 in addition to procoder2 IMO.
It has been reputed to be as good in quality output as CCE, although it is slower.

after all a dvd9 => 5 conversion can not be compared to a dvd9 to 1600mb conversion
do yourself a favour and create proper dvd5s using the encoder of your choice
cce is fastest, but has some problems with low-bitrate-scenes
hank315's hc_enc is an excellent encoder and can cope with cce, may be better in some low-bitrate scenes but from my experience cannot cope with procoder2 when it comes to heavy data reduction
in higher bitrate conversion they are all superbComment
