    confert Xvid to divX

I conferted a few homevid's to xvid. but before testing it I deleted the originals
Now i found out that my dvdplayer doesn't support xvid. it does support divx.

what program can i use best to conferte my xvid's to divx?

it's amazing that xvid is not supported by the way - never seen this with any player

now before you start any conversions, try the following

you might be able to make your player accept the files by making a small change to the header so that the file pretends to be divx instead of xvid

this can be done in seconds, wheeas re-encoding will take hours

    1.
    download 4cc changer:
Download software for playing and making DivX movies

    2.
duplicate/make a backup of your file

    3.
open the avi in 4cc changer

    4.
    type this into both fileds:
    DX50

    5.
    apply

now burn this file and test it on your standalone player

If that doesn't work use mpeg4modifier and load the file. Under Aspect Ratio you will see pixel ratio. If none of these are checked and custom is checked at the bottom it will not play in my 2 philips dvp642 players. I've done tests with all of these settings and the 2 that work consistently are "square pixels" and "16:9 NTSC". check here in the dvd player section to see what type of compatibility your player has. If you need more info settings for under the "video info" tab in mpeg4modifier let me/us know
