    converting Mpeg2 to Mpeg4

    Hi guys,

I am using my TV card (Hauppauge WinTV PVR) to get some movies in Mpeg2 format (PAL format I suppose). But I'd like to get some Mpeg 4 files from that in order to burn them into CDs. I would like to crop the image on the way to get rid of the black areas.

What are the best softwares to do so ?
Do you recommand any special codec ?

      Yeh.

Hauppauge are great! I have a Wintv go PCI and it is ACE!!!

What I usually do is this, and I don't lose quality:

      capture
      AVI to MPEG2 using TMPGENC.
      crop it in TMPGENC
      encode
then use vidomi to convert to fast motion 6000 bitrate (ro u can use low motion).

This gives me REALLY good results for a low file size.

I cannot open my mpg files with virtualdub.
I get either a sychronization problem, or a message saying "cannot open Mpeg 2 stream".

        What is wrong ?

by the way, what does "huffyuv" mean ?? )

VirtualDub DIRECTLY accepts only .AVI and MPEG1 formats for input.

You can use TMPGEnc to crop the MPEG2 files and then (File>>Output>>AVI File Look for little slivers of barely visible radio buttons to the right, which will allow you to select which codec you wish to use) export as a DivX-compressed .AVI file, ready for burning to a CD-R...

              Working...
