Why U Should Hate Nandub

I've been using Nandub, when suddenly half way through encoding an error message appeared. So it turned itself off. Then straight after WinXp had an error. So it restarted itself. But beforte it started up when going through its strat up procedure an error saying 'hard drive failed' appeared, with the only option 2 restart. So i was stuck with a hard drive that did not work and has all my appz and rips on. The only option was 2 replace it which cost me.

That why i've not been on the forum 4 1 and a half weeks. But its sorted out after all the hassel. I have 2 download all the appz i previoulsly had, which took time.

So i would like 2 know why this happend? i heard it is that i had 2 audio codec installed (lame & radium). is this true? what else could have caused this?

But i have started using it again with a little bit of faith still in it. if it happens again i might hate it, but not yet.

what a fool are you to think that a particular tool has ruined your harddrive????

i have had two COMPLETE hdd failures myself (of course both drives were replaced by the manufacturer) but i wouldnt dare blaming the tool!!!

nundub runs for hours and thus of course is a demanding program.

since harddrives hardly crash completely when your pc is turned OFF, you dont not really wonder that this might take place when under heavy load, do you?

of course loosing a harddrive completely is a severe loss, annoying and time consuming ( i know what it means, both drives i lost were quite full [40 + 60gb] but this happens every now and then!

So your harddisk failed, what can I say, it happens. This Is why people do backups.

Don't blame nandub, no software can cause a crash like that (except maybe a very clever virus).

The problem with any video transcoding software, is that it'll keep the disk running for many hours without pause.

true, nandub might not have caused it but i don't know what caused it.

how old was your drive?

my two maxtors were replaced without any major hassle (via internet RMA)

i did backups but it was a month old. this is the first time it has happend 2 me. It was a shock. I thought it would not happen 2 me. But look what happend. I have learnt my lesson to backup all important stuff as soon as possible.

i'm convinced nandub was not 2 blame

i got my computer last november. Its a maxtor drive. So your 2 maxtor drives failed. I think these drives must be vunrable. If it happens again i'll try an IBM drive as these are suppose to be solid.

I got a MESH computer. I don't know if you have heard of them. who are internet RAM

i know many ppl, whose IBM did crash, too!!!
as did samsung, wd and seagate: all known cases to me!

in other words: it can happen any time with any product

as for your maxtor
do you still have it?
what size and serial number does it have???

i don't have it as the warrenty man replaced it and took it with him. But its 80gb when formatted 75gb. Why?

the only positive thing was it was under warrenty, so it did not cost anything. But my dad was p!$$3d

About half a year ago, I had a 60GB drive die on me (and I had no program running on it. It's just staying there as a file storage). I had it replaced under warranty. Not so long after, a friend of mine had her HD fail as well. It could have been a coincidence, but it so happens that her harddrive was of the same brand and series as the one that dies on me. A Quantum Fireball AS (I know Quantum is no more). Has anyone had the same problem too? It's really funny that my older Quantum Lct drive outlasted the AS drive though.

p.s. I store all my DVD VOB rips in the Lct drive and do all my conversions (Audio and video processing and file writing) on the same drive as well. I've had nandub run consecutively for at least one and a half day (1.5 day) and the drive still seems to be working okay to me.

I had a 30gb IBM and it crashed (luckily it was very big) and I have a friend that had a 80 gb maxtor filled completely that crashed without him doing something big on it (compiling cpp program) so every hdd can crash without any perticular reason.

I've had only that particular 60GB AS HD to fail on me (It was fortunate (very) that every single file on that drive had been backed up). The rest (WD and Seagate) have performed reliably. Heck. I still keep an old and working 6.4GB WD HD on one of my machines.

yeah, i think maxtor should stick to quality and reliability rather than opting for hard disks with larger capacities
