That is pretty much a subjective question. Everyone has their own opinions on that. As for me, I use 3.11.

divx5 might have more potential but for the time being i would NOT consider it the better choice.

on the contrary, the original ms v2 (the hacked divx3 is based on ms codecs) codec is my one and only choice when used with NANDUB!

just my opinion but i think DivX 5 has the best quality i have seen. In 3.11 i have experienced too many macroblocks

I ask that to. If you use divx 3.11 with nandub I ensure you that you wont get many macroblocks. At the right bitrate ofcourse. When I tried to convert with divx 5 and virtualdub and then divx 3.11 and nandub I can ensure you that I got better quality on divx 3.11. Tried it on two different movies. On the planet of the apes 3.11 got rather much better qulity and on a music video it didn't differ that much.

I am ver, very soory. I was over my head. I have followed your advice and tried DivX3 with 2pass. This gave me a smaller file size, btter quality, and its a more common file type. I was over my head to think DivX5 was better. DivX 5 is for beginners. I used Gordian Knot with the help of Doom9 guide (which was very detailed and helpful) and got the best possible results. My previous method uisn nandub alone was no good.

However i did encounter a problem. In Gknot it said the following in the log:

Time(????): Final Avi Size than intermediate files.
Time(????): Something went wrong. NOT deleting intermediate files
                Done

This resulting in the audio an d video not being muxed. Could you please help?

I would suggest that you try to mux the audio with nandub seperatly instead if you allready have a MP3 sound. If you don't create one with BeSweet. You can find out anthing you need on my guide at http://hem.fyristorg.com/dvdriping
                  try it.

                      3.11alpha is the best codec.

u can use any encoder, not just nandub. But nandub is great.

u may wish to check out my DVDx guide.

I am NOT saying it's perfect but it's a start.

I got really good quality with that and file size was just under 1 CD worth!
