    Mpg2 - Divx

What is the best software to use for converting Mpg2 to Divx, Flask seems to crash to much when doing 2 pass encoding, Nandub & Virtualdub don't recognise Mpg2 files.

P.S. My Mpg2 files are captured through an Ati Radeon VIVO card should I capture to Mpg1 as this seems more stable.

    Thanks.

I suggest that you go to www.doom9.org and read his guide on SVCD 2 DivX conversion. It works fine I have done it with LOTR.

no idea what you might find over at doom9's

        what i did is this:

        - loading the mpeg files into dvd2avi and make a project file just like i would with vobs

        - frameserve via avisynth or vfapi ( i prefer avisynth) into nandub

yeh but it depends, are u encoding MPEG2 files or from DVD?

if from MPEG2 files (like captured or encoded from tmpgenc) then use vidomi.

however, different rule applies to DVD's

They are captured by an ati card through video in, with Ati's multimedia centre doing the capturing. I have had sucsess with normal one pass encoding its when I try 2 Pass things seem to go wrong.

ATI!!! that's ur problem - the are bad, they suk!

anyway, use vidomi and just do a 1 pass and see what happens. Then try nandub for a 2pass.

i was of course talking about SVCD mpeg2 not vobs, since that's what has been asked.

Vidomi seems to work well, but can I reduce the picture size, Ex 720 x 576 to 640 x 480 in vidomi.

                      Thanks

                      Mike.
