Why Nandub?

I have seen many people talking about their prefered encoder being Nandub, but I am yet to see any reasons whay except that it is more customizable than other encoders.I use Flask or Xmpeg myself and haven't tried Nandub yet. Nandub looks to me to have a lot of pre work envolved before you can start encoding, with the need to use several programs.

What advantages does nandub have aside from being more customizable? Does it encode quicker? can you get better quality from it?

Personally I dont care for speed, I have a TB800 and that encpdes for a good speed for me, however I am always interested in getting better quality to size ratio. Is Nandub for me?

due to a two pass method the quality you will get out of NANDUB is unrivaled.

you may come close to this quality when using divx4/5 with 2passes as well.

nandub is, however, imho the most precise tool to achieve a near perfect backup of your dvd.

it is reliable and it will give you an output file size that you define beforehand.

divx4/5 needs more luck/knowledge/testing to get near nandubs qualities.

nandubs speed is not fast at all, its quality and reliability is, however, more important to me.

Most important for me is that it uses the standard DivX3.11 or M$MPEG4 codec that should work on nearly every computer. You don't have to install a new (unstable) version of the codec to watch the movie.

ooooohhh...yes I completly agree with uncasms...The quality of nandub is nothing compared to alot of encoders out there....The quality of nandub is excellent. You can specify the final size you want, you can customize etc...

The way nandub works is that it uses both, low motion and fast motion codecs so it adjusts the codec accrodingly to the scene. Therefore the quality is so superb.

If you use a different encoder, u can only use 1 codec, either low OR fast but NOT both. Fast motion is great but sometimes there are blocks, low motion is GREAT too but sometimes there are blocks as well, especially in HIGH action scenes, also file size is unpredictable sometimes.

Nandub, you can specify the final file size and it will try to do it in the file size specified.

Nandub is superb for low bitrates
for people who want to encode lots of episodes on one CD
