Divx how to add black bars?

Just purchased a Samsung stand alone dvd player for playing my divx films. I have found out that the Samsung player has a problem with the aspect ratio on divx films. The player seems to stretch a full vertical picture onto the screen. This causes massive cut off on the sides of the movie.

They need black bars added on top and bottom I successfully did this with "AVI Recomp" but it took 3 hours to process! But it was just what I was after and played perfectly the only problem it took 3 hours, it would have been quicker to convert to dvd!

So any ideas on a quicker way to add black bars to divx films?

    Thanks

if i were you i'd first check the settings of that samsung player and in case it actually does not provide correct playback give it back and get a player which does its job properly

i have tested numerous divx/mpeg-4 players over the last years and i never experienced this problem and thus i must say:
since there are so many decent players out there which play divx/xvid perfectly fine you should be able to get one, too

have to agree there, i've tried quite a few already and they all play the correct aspect ratio. may have to look in the manual.

Checked the settings and I cannot find a way around it? It's a Samsung HD860 if anyone can help. There is a setting on the remote which Samsung call "Easy view" it's supposed to adjust the aspect ratio.

But it only works with dvd films and is inoperative with divx films. I have emailed Samsung support but looks like a waste of time, no reply!

I purchased the player off ebay which was brand new and still boxed thought I had a bargain until this problem cropped up.
